Sixth Form

At the John Madejski Academy Sixth Form we aim to provide each student with the opportunity to succeed. We believe that hard work and positive relationships enable our students to achieve excellence. We ensure our Sixth Form is a vibrant, purposeful and supportive community, meeting the needs of each of our students.

We believe that appropriate subject choice is essential and endeavour to facilitate the needs of our students to create truly individualised learning. At the John Madejski Academy Sixth Form we provide a broad range of subjects at Advanced Level as well as providing alternative pathways through our level two option choices.

Values:
High standards are integral to the continuing success of the John Madejski Academy Sixth Form. In return for us providing a plethora of opportunities to our students we expect all of our students to demonstrate the following values and qualities:
    •   enthusiasm
    •   dedication
    •   high aspirations
    •   mutual respect
    •   positive attitude to learning

Guidance and well-being:
The John Madejski Academy is concerned with more than just ensuring its students gain outstanding academic qualifications. Our aim is to help students develop a range of transferable skills that will prepare them for employment, higher education or other training opportunities. These skills will be developed through the curriculum, during academic tutoring, participation in enrichment activities and wider Sixth Form initiatives.

Students are offered guidance through themed Anthropology sessions of Citizenship and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education).

Football Studies at the John Madejski Academy run in association with Reading Football Club

In partnership with Reading Football Club the Sixth Form offers a unique opportunity for elite footballers. The Football Studies course has three main elements:
 •  BTEC National in Sport
 •  Level 1 and 2 Football Coaching
 •  specialised Football training sessions
 •  opportunities to represent the Academy in
a variety of competitions, cup and league
 •  opportunities to trial with professional      clubs.
The purpose of the John Madejski Football Studies course is to give players the opportunity to study and train in a professional environment. We give them the chance to develop, not only as players but also as coaches. The ultimate goal of the course is to develop professional footballer.

Such is the competition to get onto the course that numbers are restricted and there is a rigorous selection process.

Student Leaders:
The prestigious roles of Academy Student Presidents are held by two Sixth Form students each year. Students campaign to the whole Academy and are elected after a whole Academy election. The Academy Student Presidents lead the student body through organising and chairing the Whole Academy Student Council, they also take a leadership role in major events such as Open Evenings and Graduation. In addition they prepare speeches on behalf of the student body, spearhead charity events throughout the year, provide support and guidance to School Prefects and assist in the day-to-day operation of the Sixth Form. This is a wonderful opportunity for Sixth Formers to develop their leadership potential and provides other Academy students with positive role models.

Current Academy Presidents are Josh Springer and Sheraine Sutton-Eaton.
