Tommy Robinson, Lead Teacher of Performing Arts

"I have been at the John Madejski
Academy for 3 years and in that
time I have seen the Arts
Directorate grow in strength and
confidence. As lead teacher of
Performing Arts it is my
responsibility to ensure that the
students get as broad an
experience of performing as
possible. This has resulted in a
number of different projects from
Shakespeare to ABBA!

We are also changing the way we
teach our students, putting a
greater emphasis on choice and
enjoyment. Each term the
students take part in a project
and choose which one of the
Arts discipline to concentrate on.
Our most recent project was a
Carnival; the students chose
performed circus skills and
played the Samba!

As a member of the Academy
“family” I am fully supported in
these ventures and I am part of
'can do' culture. Due to this
freedom the students gain in
confidence and the teachers of
the Arts can expand their own
experiences."

Stefan Merreywether, Head of Apollo School

"The biggest strength we have at
the Academy is our people, our
students, our staff, our parents.
You will be challenged, supported
and included in a committed
community that really values
passionate professionals who
care about the lives of our young
people. In return you'll find that you
get stacks back. Our students are
some of the most fascinating
you will ever encounter.

The Academy has done more to
develop me than any organisation
that I've ever worked at. There is a
strong system of support and a
culture of challenge which always
makes you want to raise your
game.  Staff development is
something we take a lot of pride
in at the Academy, there are so
many opportunities for our
talented staff to take a real lead
in moving us forward. Sound
good? Get in touch!"

Katie Royle, Lead Teacher in Citizenship, PHSE and RE at the John Madejski Academy

"I joined the John Madejski
Academy when it opened as
a Humanities teacher. Since
then, I have been offered
different opportunities to develop
professionally and widen my
field of expertise. Working within
such a dynamic and forward-
thinking environment has been
inspirational and offered me
many incredible opportunities.
The students are lively,
entertaining and keen to be
involved in the development of
the Academy. I feel very lucky to
be able to work within not only
an innovative and student-
centred environment, but also
to be able to feel so satisfied and
fulfilled in my job!"

Trevor Benstock, ICT Network Manager at the John Madejski Academy

"John Madejski Academy has
provided me with an extremely
rewarding and diverse career.
The Academy itself is sports
focussed, which is a personal
motivation – I’m very keen on
most sports, football in particular!
It also utilises the latest state-of-
the-art ICT equipment to support
a world-class learning and
training centre and has given me
the opportunity to research and
deploy innovative edge
technologies.

By far the most rewarding part
of the job however is getting
stuck in with the students and
doing what I can to aid their development – be that in ICT,
sport or vocational activities."

Melanie McGregor, Teacher of Psychology and PE at the John Madejski Academy

"Working at the John Madejski
Academy has been both a
rewarding and a tough experience
for me personally. I joined the
Academy when it first changed
from Thamesbridge and have
seen quite an improvement
during my time here. The staff are
strong, helpful and passionate
about what they do and the
students, although challenging at
times, are funny and full of
character. There are always plenty
of times and situations  which
help me appreciate why I choose
to work in a  school and I do
believe in what we are striving to
achieve here."
